Got something to trade? Try Swappy

2/04/2015

Let's say it's your birthday and you're hoping to get a an Apple TV but your gift turns out to be a Fitbit. You could try selling the Fitbit on that well-known auction site, or try something new and post it on Swappy, an app that connects people nearby who have something to trade.

Here's how it works: You take a picture of the item you're offering to trade, set a monetary value and post it on Swappy. Then swipe through listings of items of similar value that others Swappy users have posted.

When you see something you like, give it a thumb's up. If the owner likes your item, you open a chat session and close the deal. Unlike the auction site, there's no money involved, no postage to ship across country and no commission to pay.

Swappy users can trade all sorts of stuff such as video games, electronics, jewelry, sports gear, clothes and even big items like cars or motorcycles. The service is designed to connect users in the same city or area, but you adjust the geographic boundaries if you want.

For more details, check out the video below, visit the Swappy website and follow Swappy on Twitter. You can get the iOS app in the iTunes App Store and the Android version in the Google Play Store.
