As we roll toward the big Christmas holidays, my family is doing a lot of shopping online. And they're probably sick of hearing me repeat my online shopping mantra:

Before you buy, look for coupons.

They know about the coupons that come in the mail and in the newspaper, but they often forget that many websites provide coupons in the form of discount codes that can deliver some serious savings.

And not just savings on groceries or toys. One site I could offers discount codes for discounts on website hosting, domain registrations, and virtual private servers from Namecheap.

According to its website, Namecheap is an ICANN-accredited domain name registrar and web hosting company that manages about 7 million domains.

Namecheap coupons currently posted at the Saving With Coupons site offer a variety of discounts, from 10% off on domain registrations or transfers to 40% off on VPS hosting. Links on the site take visitors directly to the corresponding product pages at Namecheap where the discount codes can be redeemed.

Apptuse app works with HostGator web stores

Texas-based HostGator is one of the county’s better-known web hosting services with features that include cloud, VPS and WordPress along with tools for creating an online store.

And for store operators who want to be always in touch with their shop, they can install a mobile app designed specifically to work with a HostGator store.

The Apptuse mobile app for HostGator is available for both Android and iOS devices.  It works with the user’s existing site and payment gateway on HostGator and includes tools to manager social platforms and track visitor and sales metrics.

Aussie host offers fast SSD cloud servers

Back when I worked with the digital developers at a large publishing company, their work was frequently slowed by the challenges of finding a proper server environment. Of course, the company had it’s own server, but it didn’t have the management and coding tools that help developers work faster and smarter.

CloudWired is a new hosting service based in Melbourne that wants to provide those tools and the type of digital environment that Australian developers want and need to do their best work.

CloudWired offers a fast, cloud-based solid-state (SSD) platform that it says will let small businesses and developers create a cloud server in under a few minute. The service provides a simplified control panel that lets operators manage apps, backups, load balancing, Windows OS and other tasks.

Part of the fun of multiplayer games is having access to your own hosting server. That lets you control the guest list and customize play options to suit your group.

That’s especially true when you’re playing Minecraft, the hugely popular sandbox where players can build and explore a town, a spaceship or a new world.

HostGator offers low-cost hosting with lots of extras

You didn't see HostGator advertising during this year's Super Bowl - and that's a good thing. While some better-known services spend their cash on advertising, HostGator appears to put its money into lower prices, customer service and free features.

HostGator is owned by Endurance International Group Holdings, a publicly-traded company that provides cloud-based platform solutions for small and medium-sized businesses.

Cloudfyre offers fast and affordable web hosting

Insurgency server lets you kick butt on a dedicated host
