Facevox delivers audio posts to Facebook

I’m not surprised that so many of the machines we use today want to hear what we have to say. Devices that recognize and respond to human voices have been a mainstay of science fiction from clamshell communicators in TV’s Star Trek to the MU-TH-UR 6000 computer that ran the spaceship in Alien to Kyoko, the synthetic woman in Ex Machina.

Today we talk to Siri or Google on our phones to send a text message or make a call. And devices like Amazon’s Echo will turn on lights or start the coffeemaker when we tell it to.

But, did you know you can also use your voice to post a Facebook update? I didn’t either until I came across Facevox, an iOS app that wants you to tell it a story.

There app lets users talk directly into their Facebook timeline. You don’t have to fuss with the phone’s keyboard or be embarrassed by an errant auto correction that changes your words. It’s like a voice memo app for Facebook.

The app is designed to look and work like a cassette tape recorder. There’s a red RECORD button to start and buttons to PAUSE or STOP plus a SHARE button that posts your audio file directly to Facebook. You can also take a photo or attach one from your camera roll or include a URL from a website or from YouTube.

And why not audio? Speech is the oldest and most natural way for humans to communicate, even when they’re talking to a machine. The people behind Facevox explain it this way:

Audio is chill. Like you don’t even notice it while you’re recording so you can just be yourself for once.
