PDF417 is a stacked linear barcode symbol format. It’s a dense format that can pack more information into a machine-readable image than older barcode formats.
The format is used in a variety of applications. It’s used widely for transport tracking, identification cards, and inventory management. I see it most often on airline boarding passes and sometimes on letters delivered by the US Postal Service.
Barcode Wire, a website that follows the barcode industry and barcode technology, lets anyone print a PDF417. Just input the text you want to represent and you get back a JPG image file.
Visitors to the Barcode Wire website can use the Free PDF417 Generator option on the site’s main menu or install the Chrome browser plug-in from the Chrome Web Store.
