New chat app jumps language barriers

One of the great things about foreign travel is how you can connect with interesting people, even if they don’t share your language. You might come home with their mobile phone number, but the language barrier keeps you from expanding that connection.

Now there’s a new mobile app for Android devices called LIFE that can eliminate that communication issue. LIFE lets users send free text messages that cross national borders and language barriers.

LIFE offer both built-in language translation and a search function that lets users connect with people who have shared interests. Its developers say it’s being used by people in 230 countries, including Japan, China, Taiwan, South Korea and across Europe.

The app is available as a free download in the Google Play Store.
