Apple Watch in line to get an SOS app

9/26/2015

Among the many things I do with my Apple Watch is check the weather and read news and text alerts. Jason Nichols thinks the watch could also save my life or the life of a loved one.

Nichols is developing an app called WristSOS. With the app installed, watch wearers will be able to send an instant distress signal to family members. Nichols envisions the app being used by children, elderly people or anyone who is in a situation that causes them to be concerned about their safety.

Nichols has launched a fundraising campaign on Indiegogo where he hopes to raise $7,500 to get the Apple Watch app built and posted in Apple’s App Store. Any money collected beyond the goal will be used to work on an Android version.

Contribution levels start at $1. Nichols has reserved a custom Apple Watch for up to five people who donate $1,500. The estimated delivery date is December, 2015.
