DiscountIF links deals on gear to sporting events

6/08/2015

If you’re a fan of global soccer, you probably have a pick to win Copa America, the South American football championship competition that begins June 11 in Chile.

I found a website called DiscountIF that lets you shop for cool electronic gear with a chance to get a substantial discount if your team wins.

Here’s how it works: Let’s say you buy a Beats by Dr. Dre Pill wireless speaker for £173 (about $265 US). The speaker is tied to Colombia's performance in the Copa America. If Colombia wins, you get a 60% of your money refunded.

DiscountIF’s deals are currently focused on the football games, but the site has offered other products tied to other eventts. Writing on the site’s blog, the developers said they have paid cash back on PS4s, speakers, TVs, iPads and telescopes.

“We’ve linked them up to a wide range of events; Football, X Factor, Golf, Cricket, Snow on Christmas Day - you name it we’ve done it,” they say. Other events that DiscountIF has tied to products include Wimbledon tennis and US Open golf.

To see the full catalog, visit the DiscountIF website and check out @DiscountIF on Twitter when fresh deals are posted. And click here to help DiscountIF compete in the Virgin Media Business competition to pitch their business idea to Richard Branson.
