If you like to get creative with your mobile phone camera, you've probably discovered PicsArt, a photo-editing app that lets users enhance their images by adding text, stickers and other visual tweaks.
The app has been downloaded more than 200 million times and it recently snagged a big investment from Sequoia Capital, the people who also put their money on WhatsApp and Instagram.
PicsArt is viewed as the next generation of Instagram because it has a special focus on community sharing and co-created content. Like the musical artists who allow their work to be remixed and reimagined, PicsArt users can invite the online community to edit and remix their photos by applying the #freetoedit tag.
A new update to PicsArt has added several new features. The app now supports images up to 8 megapixels, up from 3 megapixels previously. The move matches the sensor size of many of today's more popular smartphone cameras. With higher resolution, images retain their sharpness and stay vivid, even after they have been uploaded to the PicsArt app.
In addition, PicsArt images can now be printed at 300dpi (dots per inch). By printing at the industry standard level, PicsArt images can qualify for contests or professional work. And PicsArt now accepts images in .gif format
The PicsArt app is available for iOS, Android and Windows devices. You can see examples of user art and get links to all of the download sources on the PicsArt website. And you can follow @PicsArtStudio on Twitter.
