Most of the talk about near field communication has focused on NFC terminals in retail stores where waving your smartphone can get you a cup of coffee. But some Texas entrepreneurs think NFC would be a great addition to a very popular advertising medium: the T-shirt.
Shirt Connections is building a website where visitors can order NFC-enabled T-shirts that point to a website. The shirts will have a logo or message on the front, a URL on the sleeve and an NFC chip embedded in the fabric.
Tap the shirt with an NFC-enabled mobile device and you'll be connected to a designated website or other online destination. The girl modeling a prototype shirt is promoting a funding campaign.
I think the Shirt Connections folks are correct when they say that's "guaranteed to be a conversation starter.
Shirt Connections plans to begin taking orders for T-shirts in the spring of 2015. If you'd like to be notified when the service is launched, drop your email address on the Shirt Connections website.
